What is Upside Down Text?

Upside down text flips your writing so it reads as if it were turned 180 degrees. It is not an image or a font. Each letter is swapped for a different Unicode character that happens to look like the original turned over, so the result is plain text you can paste anywhere.

How the flip actually works

Each character maps to a Unicode look-alike that resembles it rotated 180 degrees. For example, the letter a maps to ɐ and e maps to ǝ. The tool also reverses the order of the characters, because when you physically turn text over, the last letter ends up first. The combination makes a line read naturally when viewed upside down.

Why some characters do not flip
